Add products and line items to a deal

A deal can carry a list of products, each with a quantity, unit price and discount. Mesy adds the lines up and writes the total into the deal’s value field. The value on the board and in reports then always matches the lines.

What you need first

The Products section appears on a record whose type has the deal (opportunity) role. It also needs a type with the product role in the workspace. Both roles are set by an admin under Semantic Role in the Schema tab of Admin. Without a product type, the section doesn’t appear.

On the product type, the admin can name a Price Field, SKU Field, Unit Field and Cost Field. The price field prefills each line’s unit price. A product type without one shows a tooltip on its row saying that line items can’t price from it.

Add a product to a deal

To add a line:

1. Open the deal and find Products under Details.
2. Type in the box reading Add a followed by the product type’s name.
3. Pick a product from the list with the arrow keys or a click. Pressing Enter picks the highlighted product, or an exact name or SKU match.
4. The line appears with quantity 1 and the product’s price. When the product has no price, the price box is focused so you can type one.

When nothing in the catalogue matches what you typed, pressing Enter adds a one-off line with that text as its name. Use this for things like a delivery fee that isn’t a product. If matches are still listed, Enter does nothing until you pick one or clear the search.

Edit a line

Each line has boxes for Quantity and Unit price, and a discount as either Discount % or Discount amount. Click Toggle % / $ discount to switch between the two. Press Enter or click away to save a box. Click the description area (it reads Add description… when empty) to add a note to the line. A line’s name is a snapshot taken when you add it; renaming the product later doesn’t change existing lines.

Drag a line by its Reorder grip to change the order. Click Remove followed by the product’s name to delete a line. Click a product’s name to open its record.

The section header shows the total of all lines. Each line’s amount is quantity times unit price, less the percentage discount, less the fixed discount.

The deal’s value becomes calculated

Once a deal has at least one line, its value field reads Calculated from products and can’t be edited by hand. Trying to change it through any route is refused with a message that the value is calculated from the record’s line items. Remove every line to make the field editable again.

Only someone allowed to edit the deal can change its lines. Otherwise Mesy refuses with You don’t have permission to modify this opportunity.

See a product’s deals

Open a product record and the Deals section lists every deal it appears on. Each row shows the deal’s company, its stage and the product’s contribution to that deal. The header shows the product’s total across those deals. A product on no deal reads Not in any deals yet.

Revenue by product in Reports

On the Reports page, the Revenue by product card appears when the workspace has a product type. Switch Deal stage between All deals, Won only and Open only. When the product type has a category, Group by switches between By product and By category. A workspace with no lines yet reads No line items to report and suggests adding products to a deal.
