Add and edit records
Every object type in Mesy (contacts, companies, deals, or any type your admin has added) has its own page in the sidebar. This page covers creating a record there and changing its fields afterwards.
Create a record with the full form
Section titled “Create a record with the full form”To create a record with every field in front of you:
- Open the type’s page from the sidebar.
- Click New followed by the type’s name (for example New Contact).
- Fill in the fields. A required field carries a red asterisk after its label.
- Click Create followed by the type’s name.
- The new record opens in the panel on the right.
While you type, Mesy checks the values that identify a duplicate for this type. If one matches an existing record, a Possible duplicate line appears under the form with the matching record’s name. Click the name to look at that record before you create another. The line only appears when your admin has set identity fields for the type (see “Find and merge duplicate records”).
Create a record from a name
Section titled “Create a record from a name”The table’s last row is a quick-entry row. Click Add New, type a name and press Enter. Mesy creates the record and keeps the row open so you can type the next one. Press Escape to close it. On a type with a first-name field, Mesy splits what you type into first and last name.
Edit a cell in the table
Section titled “Edit a cell in the table”Click a cell to focus it. From a focused cell:
- Press Enter, or double-click, to open the editor.
- Type any character to start editing with that character.
- Press Backspace or Delete to clear the value, unless the field is required.
- Press Tab or the arrow keys to move to another cell.
- Press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on a Mac) to copy the cell.
Choice, multi-line, number, currency, percent, date and relation fields open their picker on a single click. Enter saves, Escape cancels, and clicking elsewhere saves. A multi-line field saves with its Save button or Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). Hovering a cell also shows Copy and Edit actions, and the first column shows Open record.
When a save fails, Mesy shows the reason and puts the old value back. The server checks each value. A required field can’t be empty and a choice must be one of the field’s options. An email must be a valid address, a phone number must contain digits, and a URL can’t contain spaces. Text fields hold up to 1,000 characters and multi-line fields up to 50,000.
Edit a record in the panel
Section titled “Edit a record in the panel”Click a row to open the record in a panel on the right. Use the arrows in the panel header to move to the previous or next record, or click Open full page for the wider layout.
Click the title to rename the record. Enter saves, Escape cancels, and an empty name is ignored.
Fields sit under Details, with Created and Updated under System. Fields with no value are folded behind a count such as 3 empty fields. Click any value to edit it in place; a checkbox field flips on a single click. To change every field at once, open More actions and choose Edit all fields, then click Save Changes or Cancel.
The owner appears as a pill near the top of the panel. Admins and managers can click it to reassign the record to another active member. Members see the pill without a menu.
Click Add tag to add one of the workspace’s tags, and Remove tag on a tag to take it off.
Delete a record
Section titled “Delete a record”Open More actions in the panel header and choose Delete. Mesy asks Delete this record? and deletes it when you click Delete.
A deal’s value while it has products
Section titled “A deal’s value while it has products”Once a deal carries line items, its value field reads Calculated from products and can’t be edited by hand anywhere. Change the lines instead; Mesy recalculates the value from them.
