Build a canvas with the co-pilot

The canvas is a panel that opens beside the conversation on the Chat page. It appears when the co-pilot has something to show you: a table, a board, a chart or a written brief. You ask in plain words; the co-pilot decides what to draw, and the canvas holds every widget it has made in this conversation.

Ask for a widget

Open Chat from the sidebar. The page header reads Mesy AI. Ask the co-pilot to show data rather than describe it. “Show my open deals as a board” or “write a deal brief for Acme” both work.

When it answers with a widget, the canvas opens on the right with the new widget in view. A chip under the message names the widget. Click the chip to bring that widget back into view later.

The canvas exists only on the Chat page. The docked co-pilot on other pages answers in text, and on a phone the canvas panel doesn’t show. Widgets are saved with the conversation, so they return when you reopen it from your history.

The widgets you can ask for

Each widget carries a label in its header that says what kind it is. There are eight kinds:

• Record shows one record’s fields, with an Open full detail link to its page.
• Table lists records of one type, filtered as you asked. Click a row to open it as a Record widget, then use the back link in the header to return.
• Kanban shows a pipeline board. Drag a card to another stage to move the record; click a card to open it.
• Stats shows metric cards the co-pilot has worked out.
• Tasks lists tasks. Tick one to complete it; click a task linked to a record to open that record.
• Chart draws a bar, horizontal bar, pie or donut chart from figures the co-pilot supplies.
• Report runs a live report through the reporting engine, so it recalculates every time it loads. Its footer has Save as report and Pin to dashboard.
• Document holds long-form writing such as a brief, an account plan or a meeting summary.

Table, Kanban and Tasks widgets have a Refresh button in their header. Every widget has a close button; in single view its tooltip reads Dismiss and it removes the widget.

Tile two widgets side by side

When the canvas holds more than one widget, a tab strip runs along its top. Clicking a tab brings that widget into view. On a desktop you can also drag a tab to show two widgets at once. The canvas shows at most two panes.

To tile two widgets:

1. Drag a tab from the strip over the widget currently in view.
2. Move towards the left, right, top or bottom edge until the highlight covers that half.
3. Drop the tab. Both widgets show, split along that edge.

Drag the divider between the two panes to change their sizes. Once two panes show, dropping a third tab onto a pane replaces that pane’s widget; dropping the other pane’s tab swaps the two. The close button on a tiled pane reads Close pane and returns the widget to the tab strip without deleting it.

The arrangement is yours alone: Mesy keeps it in your browser for this conversation. The widgets themselves are part of the conversation and come back on any device. Drag the edge between the chat column and the canvas to give either side more room.

Revise a document and read earlier versions

Ask the co-pilot to change a Document, for example “make the summary shorter”. It rewrites the same widget instead of adding a second one. Each rewrite keeps the previous text as a version. Mesy keeps up to ten earlier versions of a document.

Once a document has more than one version, buttons labelled v1, v2 and so on appear above the text. The newest version shows by default and stays live as new revisions arrive. Click an earlier version to read it; the widget then reads Viewing an earlier version (read-only) and names the live version. Earlier versions can’t be edited, and the co-pilot always revises the newest one.
